The International Human Rights Academy is a human rights course, organised every year in South Africa or in Europe under the auspices of:

  • Ghent University (Belgium)
  • Utrecht University (The Netherlands)
  • University of the Western Cape (Republic of South Africa)
  • American University Washington College of Law (United States of America)
  • University of Pretoria (Republic of South Africa)
  • Free University of Brussels (Belgium)

Now in its 8th year, we are proud to once again jointly offer the International Human Rights Academy, which will take place between 31 July and 13 August 2010 in Utrecht, the Netherlands.

Taught by international experts in the field of Human Rights, the various intensive courses that make up the Academy are designed to provide high quality legal education in comparative international human rights and in humanitarian law, with an emphasis on the practical aspects in various fields. Upon completion of the Academy and satisfactory participation, each participant will receive a Certificate of Attendance and/or 5 ECTS (European Credits).

We have chosen Utrecht again as the Academy’s location because it is a lively city in the geographical centre of the Netherlands and is located near “the world's legal capital" The Hague which is home to International Institutions such as the International Criminal Court, the International Court of Justice, the European High Commissioner on National Minorities, the Permanent Court of Arbitration, the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, the EU's criminal intelligence agency Europol, judicial co-operation agency Eurojust and many more.

The Friedrich Naumann Stiftung provides scholarships to selected participants.
